Obituary Professor Thomas Gessner

Dear Friends/Colleagues,
With a heavy heart I have to give this sad news to you that Professor Thomas Gessner, Chemnitz Technical University, Germany, one of our IJMOT/ISMOT family members and one of the most recognized scientist/ researcher not only in Germany but all over the world, suddenly passed away on May 25, 2016 at the young age of 61. Prof. Gessner was a member of ISMOT Advisory Committee as well as the IJMOT Editorial Advisory Board. He was also the General Chair and main force behind the organization of ISMOT-2015 in Dresden, Germany. He was closely associated with IJMOT/ISMOT since 2000 and very close friend to me. We had met several times in the past in Germany and in several other countries during ISMOT conferences. We used to discuss not only IJMOT/ISMOT but several other scientific research activities during dinners and lunches. He always had a beautiful smile on his face and very friendly nature. On behalf of IJMOT/ISMOT family we pray to almighty to give strength to his family members at this difficult time and the noble soul may rest in peace.
Banmali S. Rawat

Welcome message- Professor Wee Sang Park

Distinguished professors, scientists, engineers, students, and guests, on behalf of the organizing committee of ISMOT2017, I would like to welcome all of you to the 16th International Symposium of Microwave and Optical Technology in this Kbiz conference Hall, Seoul, Korea.
Especially to those who came from overseas, I would like express my sincere gratitude for traveling a long way to join us. Also to those who came from many different cities in Korea, thank you for joining us early in the morning despite your busy schedule.
And welcome to Seoul, one of the most exciting cities and top tourist’s destinations in the world! Seoul has been the capital of Korea in the past 600 years, the center of Korean politics, economy, and culture, where past traditions and the latest technology harmonize
Following the 30-year tradition of the ISMOT and the example of ISMOT 2015, which was held in Dresden, Germany, two years ago, ISMOT2017 has been prepared as stated in the agreement that Professor Rawat and the organizing committee signed in 2016. During the preparation phase, I have received enormous amount of encouragement from many people, home and abroad.
I would like to thank the organizing committee members for their dedicated participation, the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science for their administrative support, the participating universities for their generous support, as well as the corporations for their tremendously generous financial sponsorship.
For the next three days, the conference will be holding three parallel sessions. During the entire conference, I hope that you will make many life-long academic friends and meet future research colleagues, and enjoy and inspire others and be inspired from a series of presentations and dynamic session of questions and discussions. I also hope that this event will remain in your memory and in your heart for a long time.
Thank you for your presence again.
